About Us

Get Hooked Fishing Camp for Kids is a specialised day camp created right here in Hong Kong. Lifelong Hong Kong angler, Sam Newman, has created this unique camp with the ambition of spreading his love for fishing through a carefully planned fun and educational camp designed to teach children about important core values surrounding the environment all whilst catching a variety of both salt and fresh water trophy fish.

The camp allows children to explore some of Hong Kong's most beautiful landscapes where they are able to wet a line and connect with nature whilst unpacking concepts involving conservation and sustainability. Children will also learn about fishing techniques, casting, knot tying, bait selection, species identification, catch and release tactics as well as many more valuable skills.

Being a Third Culture Kid himself, Sam knows the importance of making strong ties with the environment in which you live and as a result Get Hooked Fishing Camp is designed to be so much more than just fishing. The camp aims to serve as a rite of passage in children's lives, strengthening important cultural ties that sometimes can be forgotten when moving to a country like Hong Kong.

About Sam

Sam moved to Hong Kong from England in 1993 as a young boy and slowly adapted into the hustle and bustle lifestyle that Hong Kong endorses. He has been crazy about fishing for as long as he can remember, something that his mother can attest to from having to read Sam about "how to load a wobbled dead-bait" instead of the normal picture books most three year olds enjoy. Sam describes teaching as his vocation and works as a teacher in one of Hong Kong's leading international schools. He sees fishing as a holistic practice, an escape from busy everyday life. He has created his own mindfulness techniques that he incorporates into his fishing. Sam intends to share these mindful approaches with children to help provide them with important life skills surrounding their self-confidence, self-awareness, relationships with others, and stress management.

Beyond all else he wants to help create fun memories in children's lives that will last a lifetime.

Camps

Inshore Fishing Camp (Three Day Camp; clinic day 9am - 1pm/ fishing days 9am – 3pm)

Our most popular camp is great for all skill levels! The inshore day camp includes a fishing crash course where children brush up on technical skills and learn about conservation, sustainability as well as participating in fun fishing games. These skills are then put into action with three full days of guided fishing. The first day is spent targeting freshwater species such as Carp, Catfish, Pacu, Tilapia and Snakehead. On the second day anglers try their luck at a saltwater pond filled with species such as Red Drum, Barramundi, Snapper, Mangrove Jack, Permit, Stingray, Grouper and more! Private transport to and from Discovery Bay will be provided each day. I provide Central pick up and drop off. This camp also includes lessons in marine biology, water safety, knot tying, target casting and more. Each camp is capped with a comprehensive awards ceremony on the last afternoon! This camp is limited to 20 campers and camper to adult ratios will be 7:1 to ensure maximum safety.

The camp price is $3200 HKD

Ages 6 to 16.

Lunch: Campers can bring their own lunch or order pack lunches. Lunches that are brought to camp can be stored in a cool room if needed. Snacks, water and refreshments are provided.

Pack Lunches: ($70 per day)
